Structure and working principle
The twin screw press plays an important role in the wet pressing method of fishmeal production. Its primary components are the main body, double-screw, screen control, and power device. It presses the cooked material to separate the jus (oil and protein water) and the cake.
A press chamber with two hollow interlocked cylinders houses the twin screw press. The cylinder wall is made of strainer plates made from stainless steel. The two press screws have tapered shafts, and the screw pitch varies so that the distance of the pitch is greatest at the thin end of the shafts. The screws rotate in opposite senses. The material is fed in at the extremity of the thinner side of the shafts and is carried thanks to rotation of the screws towards the thicker side of the shafts. As a result, the space for the material gradually reduces, leading to the expulsion of the liquid through the strainer plates surrounding the screws.
